Freedom of the City of Künzelsau granted to Ursula and Albert Berner

In a ceremony at the Town Hall on March 13, 2012, Ursula and Albert Berner were made honorary citizens of Künzelsau. With this award Künzelsau wishes to express its gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Berner for the creation and mainten¬ance of jobs in the city as well as for their commitment to the children and youth of Künzelsau. This includes their support of the children's theater in Künzelsau and the regularly children's festivals. Numerous other smaller projects have also benefited from their generosity, such as the vehicle purchased for the Diakonie welfare organization and their support of the Lebenshilfe charity for mentally and physically handicapped people. Their support of the low-cost food shop, provision of bursaries to talented sportsmen and financial support of the town’s civic projects should also be mentioned here as well as the musical theater project “Friendship”, offering musical and artistic opportunities to children and young people from 10 to 15 years old.

Honorary citizenship  is the highest honor that a city can award to personalities who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to the benefit of their fellow citizens or to the reputation of the community.

According to the town archive, up to now ten men and one woman have been granted the title of honorary citizen by the town of Künzelsau.
