9,000 euros for new women’s and children’s shelter

Künzelsau, February 12, 2019 – The Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association in Waldenburg is pleased to receive a generous donation: the non-profit organization was donated a total of 9,000 euros for the purchase and renovation of a new women’s and children’s shelter in Künzelsau. 8,500 euros come from the proceeds of the latest benefit concert jointly organized by the Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen. The Albert Berner Foundation rounded this amount up to provide a total donation sum of 9,000 euros.

“The planned women’s and children’s shelter is a project that is very close to my heart, as unfortunately not only in big cities, but also in rural areas there are families in which violence has a huge impact on daily life,” emphasizes Ursula Berner. The Chairwoman of the Council Foundation of the Albert Berner Foundation, together with the Deputy Chairman of the Foundation Council, Werner Gassert, also Treasurer of the Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen, and Werner Sille, Member of the Board of Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis, presented the symbolic donation check to Andrea Bühler, Director of the Women’s Shelter, Wolfgang Bartole and Heinrich Schüz of the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association.

Ten years ago, the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association took over the sponsorship of the women’s and children’s shelter in Künzelsau from the association “Frauen helfen Frauen”. Since its official opening on February 24, 1994, the facility, which has ten spots and offers accommodation as well as professional support and guidance to domestic violence victims, has been operating at full capacity almost continually. The new building will therefore be considerably larger as well as more modern. In addition, an outdoor area with a children’s playground and suitable offices and consultation rooms are being planned for a total of six full-time and part-time employees.

“We are very pleased about the donation,” says Wolfgang Bartole, Board Member of the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association. “With it, we will be able to furnish the common area and the play area for the children in such a way that they feel at ease and can find peace.”

Without the support of donations, services for the women and children could not be carried out on this scale, reports Andrea Bühler, adding: “The money is important for its financial value. But it is also a symbol of support for the women affected. It shows that we are not alone when in need.”

Popular event series

The benefit concert is organized annually by the Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen. Last November, the 18th edition of the popular event series was held – and with more than 220 visitors, it was once again a great success! Under the direction of Philipp Pointner, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (WKO) and the renowned saxophonist Asya Fateyeva ensured a special musical highlight. The proceeds from the charity concerts are always donated in full to projects, institutions, clubs or associations in the region that are worthy of support.
